Temple attacked and damaged by Muslims in Birbhum's Lavpur; 7 injured including 4 women
Local muslims attacked a temple and damaged it in Birbhum's Chhotogoga village under Lavpur Police Station. The incident happened on the night of 17th of May, Friday. According to locals, a 'Harinam Sankirtan' program was going on in the village. And traditionally at the last day of the festival, a procession was out on the street of the village . Besides, villagers were throwing colors at each other the procession. But, accidentally a bit of color fell on a muslim man who was passing by. There a scuffle broke, but it stopped there. But, on night of 18th May, around 10 P.M. a group of muslim men armed with rods, swords, sticks came to the village and beat the men, women black and blue. Besides, they attacked a temple nearby. They tried to break it. But women and men protested and tried to save the temple. Then, Muslim men hit them with knives and left the spot. Due to this, several men, women were injured. They were first taken to the Lavpur Gramin Hospital. Being critical, two women were referred to Bolpur Hospital and they were admitted there. Their condition is stable now. Villagers lodged a complaint in Lavpur Police Station. But no arrests made so far.
